Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Pre-Application
We are unable to accept speculative applications and CV by email. All applications must be submitted through our job board as we operate a fair and open anonymous selection process to mitigate against bias. We would advise signing up to our job alerts to be notified of any new opportunities once they are live.
Please refer to the Help Centre section of our job board. If you are still having technical problems, there will be a contact form that can be filled in and goes to our vendor’s customer support team (Oleeo) who can investigate further. If an account was deleted in line with our Privacy notice, then neither they nor ourselves will be unable to assist and you will need to create a new account.
On our adverts, there should be details for someone to contact should you need any help. If there are none listed, you can visit our Contact us page making sure to quote the vacancy ID, job title and your application ID (where possible). Alternatively, please reach out to your local Council (if applying from the UK) to see if they operate an employment support service.
Yes, you must have the right to work in the UK to undertake employment with UAL at the point of being offered a position. All offers at UAL are conditionally offered on the basis of satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks which includes checking your eligiblity to work in the UK.
Application and Interview
Under the Data Protection Act 2018, organisations can only retain personal data for as long as it is needed for a stated lawful purpose. When making an application on our job board, it states “On this site you can see and apply for our current vacancies”. The purpose of the site is simply to support applications. Once an application is complete, the data is no longer needed for our stated purpose, and must be deleted in line with our retention period, as stated in our Privacy notice.
Once a role has closed, unfortunately it is not possible to accept late submissions unless there was a technical issue reported before the closing date. We advise candidates to apply as early as possible as we reserve the right to close roles ahead of the planned closing date if a high volume of applications is received. We aim to provide at least 24 hours notice (usually 48 hours) in the event of any changes to the closing date.
On each job advertisement, there should be contact details for someone to contact should you need any help. Otherwise, if there is none listed, you can visit our Contact us page, making sure to quote the vacancy ID, job title and your application ID (where possible).
Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we regret that feedback is only available following an interview unless you have applied and opted in to the Disability Confident Scheme (DCS).
We use Microsoft Teams (MS Teams) for our virtual interviews. You can either use a PC/laptop or any smart device such as a tablet or smartphone provided it has a camera and microphone. Microsoft Teams does not need to be downloaded as an application on your tablet or smartphone – it is optional to do so as you can use your device’s browser to connect.
Offer and Onboarding
Under the Charities Commission Regulations, we have a duty of care to ensure student and public funds are spent appropriately. Therefore, as a starting position, candidates are expected to start at the beginning of a salary range. Natural progression is available annually post-probation through incremental steps we refer to as spinal points as part of termly Planning and Review Conversations (PRCs).
Several factors are considered such as your current salary, experience, knowledge, skills, relevant and recognised qualifications, overtaking any existing staff and general market conditions.
For British or Irish citizens with a valid passport, we are trialling the use of an online Identity Service Provider (IDSP). For non-UK citizens, including EU passport holders with Pre-Settled or Settled status, we can check your right to work online if you can provide us with a Share Code and your Date of Birth. If we are unable to verify your RTW status, then you will need to come in to conduct a face-to-face check.
We operate a Relocation Assistance Scheme for newly appointed employees. To qualify, you must be appointed to a contract of at least two years duration, currently live outside a 50-mile radius of UAL and wish to move significantly closer to your workplace.
