The opportunity

This exciting part-time opportunity is a chance to bring your professional expertise and teaching experience to the BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring course and help develop the next generation of tailoring and fashion practitioners.

Working collaboratively within the course team, you will contribute to teaching, assessment, curriculum development and scholarly activity, sharing your knowledge of bespoke tailoring, cutting, garment construction and contemporary fashion practice. Our students engage with the fashion and tailoring industries through live projects, placements, industry visits and collaborations. Providing both academic and pastoral support, you will help them to develop exceptional technical skills alongside creative and critical approaches to tailoring, encouraging them to challenge convention and develop their own professional identities.

Your profile

You will have strong professional or academic expertise in bespoke tailoring or a closely related area of fashion practice, together with experience of teaching and assessment in a higher education environment, or equivalent experience.

Your teaching and assessment experience may have been gained through a permanent, fractional, hourly paid or visiting academic role, or through another relevant educational or professional setting where you have responsibility for supporting and assessing learners. We welcome applications from both experienced higher education educators and established tailoring or fashion practitioners who can demonstrate relevant teaching and assessment experience.

You will also have a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience and be able to demonstrate a strong record of teaching, professional practice, research, knowledge exchange or other activity that contributes to the development of the subject.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can explore how traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation can work together. Your expertise might be rooted in traditional bespoke tailoring, contemporary fashion, pattern cutting, menswear, womenswear, experimental tailoring or another closely related area.
