The opportunity

The University’s halls are more than just a place to stay; they are a place our students call home here at University of the Arts London (UAL). We are committed to providing the best possible living experience and take pride in delivering a first-class, customer-focused service through safe, secure, and affordable accommodation.

London is a city that never stops, and neither do our Halls of Residence. As the needs of our residents increasingly extend beyond the traditional ‘9–5’, we are expanding our service to operate as a true 24/7 provision. To support this development, we are growing our team and introducing Residence Housekeeping Assistants to help maintain the high standards of service we provide to our students.

As a Residence Housekeeping Assistant, you will play an important role in maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of our residential facilities. You will deliver a daily cleaning service across all public areas of the accommodation, including bathrooms, lavatories, common rooms, offices, laundry rooms, and kitchenettes. You will also be highly customer-focused, as you may often be the first point of contact for residents with general enquiries or requests for assistance.

The role is based at our Camberwell Campus, Gardens House & Portland House in South East London. Residence Housekeeping Assistants will normally work between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday to Sunday, supporting our accommodation service which operates 365 days a year, including public holidays. Occasionally, you may be required to travel to other university sites across London to assist colleagues and support residents where needed.

Your profile

You will have proven experience in cleaning within domestic, hospitality, or building environments. A relevant NVQ or BICS cleaning qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.

You should have a good understanding of Health and Safety legislation and be confident working within procedures designed to manage risks to yourself and others. Knowledge of building-related safety procedures such as COSHH regulations and fire evacuation practices would be beneficial.

Providing excellent customer service will be a key part of your role, so you must be able to maintain a friendly, professional, and courteous approach at all times. You should be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, manage tasks under pressure, and communicate confidently with residents and colleagues.

You will also be computer literate, with a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook email.

Full induction and ongoing training will be provided to support you in the role.

Please note that an enhanced DBS check will be required prior to commencing employment.
