What should applicants know about eligibility, visas and pre-employment checks at UAL?

Overview

All offers of employment at the University of the Arts London are conditional. Before starting work, successful candidates must complete pre-employment checks, including verification of the right to work in the UK.

All applications are assessed fairly and consistently using the same structured recruitment process. Applicants are encouraged to read the job advert carefully before applying to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements for the role.

Right to work in the UK

All roles at UAL require candidates to have the legal right to work in the UK. Proof of eligibility is verified in line with UK Home Office requirements as part of the pre-employment process.

Right to work checks take place after a conditional offer has been made. Successful candidates will be asked to provide appropriate documentation before employment can begin.

Employment cannot commence until right to work verification has been completed. Applicants are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria carefully before applying. We can provide guidance based on the information included in the advert.

Additional pre-employment checks

Some roles require additional checks as part of the recruitment process. Depending on the nature of the role, these may include a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, qualification verification or other safeguarding requirements.

Details of any additional checks will be outlined in the job advert or job description.

All pre-employment checks must be satisfactorily completed before a start date is confirmed.

Apprenticeship eligibility

Apprenticeship roles are subject to additional eligibility criteria set out in the Apprenticeship Funding Rules.

In addition to having the right to work in the UK, applicants must have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the previous three years. Applicants who have been resident in the UK solely for the purposes of education, such as holding a Student visa, are not eligible for apprenticeship roles.
