The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated individual to join the Digital Print team as a Support Technician at London College of Communication.

The Digital Print technical facility supports students and staff in their printing for course submissions and interim and final shows. Working alongside The Digital Space, students learn how to create print-ready files using Adobe InDesign, creating publications with a variety of binding techniques.

As a specialist facility, we allow students to print on their own paper media to enhance projects and assist with the storytelling narrative. We offer consultations and discussions with students about their projects and provide students with the printed artwork they need to advance to either Print Finishing or Book Arts to bind and trim their publications.

Reporting to the Digital Space & Digital Print Technical Coordinator, you will join a dynamic team of technicians with a broad range of skills and experience.

You will offer support and advice to students across a variety of courses and disciplines.

You will encourage the safe and professional use of the Digital Print facility and ensure our area remains as inclusive and accessible as possible—where every student feels welcomed and supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet, assist and direct students who arrive at the reception desk of the studio
  • Collaborate with staff, students, and internal teams to ensure timely, high-quality print projects
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) to prepare and edit print materials
  • Troubleshoot and resolve print issues quickly to maintain tight deadlines
  • Operate and manage commercial printing equipment independently
  • Provide excellent customer service and student experience in a dynamic, high-pressure, education setting

Your profile

You will ideally have gained an Art and Design degree level qualification, and a Pg Cert Academic Practice in Art, Design and Communication would be desirable.

You will have experience of working with printing equipment and have worked in the design or print industry. The successful applicant will work alongside technicians and academics within the college to ensure students are trained in the safe, innovative and professional use of the College’s technical resources.

Above all we are looking for a motivated, creative individual who can be added to a growing and increasingly important team at the college. We would expect high levels of technical competence, professionalism and a dedication to personal development.
