The opportunity

Are you passionate about sustainability and eager to drive meaningful change? We are seeking a Head of Estates Sustainability to lead our efforts in achieving net zero and advancing our social purpose ambitions. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence institutional change and positively impact our community and the environment.

As the Head of Estates Sustainability, you will work closely with UAL’s Energy Manager and the Estate’s Sustainability Team, led by the Associate Director Estates Sustainability, to help UAL reach its sustainability objectives. Your focus will include waste management, materials circularity, transport, and construction sustainability. You will lead a cross-institutional team to support and deliver our ambitious net zero plans, ensuring a just transition that integrates social justice and biodiversity considerations.

About you

We seek a forward-thinking leader with substantial knowledge of climate change, materials circularity, and environmental legislation. You should have experience managing environmental and sustainability systems, such as ISO14001, and an understanding of construction processes and sustainable materials. A degree in a relevant discipline or membership in a professional body like IEMA or RICS is required. Your ability to communicate complex ideas in an accessible manner, lead a team, and manage large projects will be crucial. You should be adept at fostering cross-team collaboration and promoting the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

A briefing on the cross-institutional net zero team took place on the 12th August 2024. Please see below a link to the presentation slides and a recording of the briefing:
