The opportunity

We are looking for a committed and motivated Assistant Librarian to support the delivery of high quality, customer-focused library services at University of the Arts London (UAL).
In this key role, you will provide Systems and Discovery support to staff and students, by contributing to the management, co-ordination and development of library management systems, electronic resources and related technologies.
You will work closely with colleagues in the Resources & Systems team and provide support by:

•    monitoring and troubleshooting queries, escalating as necessary
•    setting and testing library management system configurations
•    maintaining and developing enquiry, CMS and Discovery portal software to support and promote our resources
•    maintaining statistics and producing reports of library system and resource use
•    assisting with departmental communications including the Library Services website and social media, as required

The role is based at the Elephant & Castle site and will be working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day, with some flexibility, during core working hours.

There will be some opportunity to work from home, dependent on operational needs, but onsite working will be the main focus for this role.

About you

We are looking for someone with a customer-focused approach and a degree qualification or equivalent. A recognised library qualification or qualification in other information disciplines is desirable e.g. CILIP accreditation, non-academic library or archives experience, NVQ or apprenticeship, library or teaching post graduate cert/dip/MA/MSc.

You will have demonstrable experience of working in a library, Higher Education institution or Information role alongside the ability to work both collaboratively, as part of a team, and independently without direct supervision.

You will have demonstrable knowledge of working with library management systems and a wide range of e-resources and online Discovery systems.

You will also possess a demonstrable awareness of best practice in troubleshooting and query handling in higher education.
