The opportunity
We are looking for a committed and motivated Library Assistant to support the delivery of high quality, customer-focused library services at Chelsea College of Arts, where you will be part of the Collections team supporting our Degree and Post Graduate students.
You will answer enquiries in person and on-line, via our live chat service, ASK. You will assist users with general directional and initial information enquiries, including the use of the library catalogue, electronic information resources. You will participate in on-site front-line services and administrative duties, including helping people use self-issue systems, IT and printing. You will also be required to do re-shelving and related activities, demonstrating an understanding of manual handling guidelines which will be required when lifting heavy items.
The role, involves working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day. Normal working hours will be between 9.00am to 6.00pm but there can be a requirement to work any time during our 9:00am to 6:30pm core hours. You will be required to work a variety of 9.00am starts or 6.00pm closes each week.
There might be limited opportunities to work from home dependent on operational needs but onsite working will be the main focus for this role.
About you
We are looking for someone with a compassionate and student-centred approach. You should have relevant library or customer service experience, and formal training to post 16 level. You will be a good communicator with excellent written skills and good IT skills, including Microsoft office. Working in a team, you will provide a positive and responsive customer service.
Knowledge and experience within a Higher Education institution is desirable but not essential.
