The opportunity

Are you an expert in Sustainability in Buildings and eager to create real, meaningful change?

We are searching for an Associate Director: Estates Sustainability to join a growing Estates team at the University of the Arts, London. You will join an innovative, creative, ambitious group of thought leaders to deliver on their published sustainability goals.

This is an exciting time to join the University as they develop their strategic approach to achieving net zero status by 2030 (Scope 1,2) and 2040 (Scope 3). Actions to date have started to have a positive impact but there is more to be done and UAL are committed to delivering this ambition.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and delivery of UAL’s approach to Estates Sustainability and work as an ambassador for sustainability.
  • Developing a full Estates Sustainability team.
  • Establishing a programme of projects to meet decarbonisation targets which have been set by the Net Zero Committee. Delivering against agreed Scope 1 & 2 Net Zero Targets.
  • Promoting sustainable thinking across Estates operations and projects.

About you

The successful candidate will:

  • Have demonstrable significant experience in leading sustainability projects within buildings/built sector.
  • Be a confident practitioner in carbon accounting (Scope 1 & 2)
  • Have an ambitious mindset, enthusiasm to make things happen and embed sustainability within the wider responsibilities of the Estates Team.
  • Enjoy communicating collaboratively with various stakeholders and multi-discipline teams both internally and externally.
  • Have a thorough understanding of energy management, heat networks, climate change, materials circularity, waste & recycling, climate mitigation & assessment and environmental legislation.
  • Have good working knowledge of Sustainability Frameworks (eg. BREEAM, LEED, WELL etc).
