The opportunity

The 0.6 Lecturer in Fine Art is responsible for on-going scholarship, teaching, curriculum development, and related academic administration, on the BA Fine Art course at Chelsea College of Art.

The post-holder will have a postgraduate degree and very substantial professional experience within the art world at international level, and be able to draw on their experience and networks to prepare students for ambitious graduate futures within the culture sectors.

The BA Fine Art course operates a practically focussed events-based curriculum where students “learn through doing”. The post-holder will have extensive experience in exhibition and event production and new media practices.

This role will include both Studio and Dissertation supervision and assessment.  A distinctive feature of the course is that critical writing is approached as an artistic form to support practical work: the post-holder’s background in practice-based art writing is essential.

The post-holder will work collaboratively within a dynamic team, to develop industry-purposed pedagogy and enhance the curriculum in innovative directions.

About you

Your established practice in the contemporary arts sector at international level will demonstrate your critically recognised expertise. You will have a demonstrable track record of innovative practice in areas such as (but not limited to)  new media, exhibition-making, and/or event organisation; experience in practice-based art writing is essential. You will have an astute understanding of a broad range of international art practices, histories, and contexts. Your knowledge of contemporary art and theory from non-European regions is desirable.

You will have a strong interest in working with emerging artists, and proven experience in designing knowledge or experience sharing activities. You will have a dynamic and engaging approach to working with others that promotes inclusivity, initiative, and professionalism. This will be demonstrated through your previous university teaching experience.

You will be well organised, inspirational, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be a confident and engaging public speaker. You will have excellent professional networks within the UK and/or internationally that you can draw upon as needed. Your proven experience of working within a team, and supporting the needs of others, individually and in large groups, is essential.

Should you have any questions about the role, please contact Ben Fitton, Course Leader BA Fine Art / b.fitton@chelsea.arts.ac.uk.
