The opportunity
London College of Fashion (LCF) is looking for a Specialist Technician Knit to join our technical team on a part time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the delivery of teaching and learning activities, and to ensure the seamless operation of College equipment and facilities.
Utilising your strong knitwear expertise, you will provide professional guidance and advice to students to facilitate development and to meet learning outcomes. This will involve providing formal or informal sessions to demonstrate key processes/techniques such as stoll, yarn, dubied, domestic and machine techniques, as well as knitted garment construction and pattern calculation.
In addition to your teaching responsibilities, you will also be responsible for overseeing the daily running of specific areas and facilities within the College. This will involve managing the use and booking of specialist facilities (i.e. darkrooms and studios within and without timetabled teaching sessions), working closely with the Technical Coordinator/Manager to ensure the safe use of equipment and facilities.
If you have any queries about this role, please contact the recruiting manager Sophie Jelinek at s.jelinek@fashion.arts.ac.uk
If you have any queries about the application process or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact the Resourcing Team at vacancies@fashion.arts.ac.uk
About you
You will need a relevant degree, an equivalent qualification, or substantial experience in knitwear for fashion, pairing this with knowledge and experience of stoll, dubied, domestic knitting machines, hand knitting, garment construction, fully fashioning and cut and sew.
You will also be proficient in the use of the Adobe Suite and will possess experience of CAD knitting, including the Stoll M1 / create plus program.
Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to plan and deliver technical instructions to a diverse audience.
