University of the Arts London is a vibrant world centre for innovation, drawing together six Colleges with international reputations in art, design, fashion, communication and performing arts.
Acme Studios, a London-based charity funded partly by Arts Council England, is dedicated to helping artists in economic need through the provision of affordable non-residential studio space, work/live space and housing, together with awards, residencies and other professional development opportunities. Its main activity is the development and management of suitable property to deliver its charitable aims and is recognised as the leading studio development organisation in England and has helped more than 5,000 artists with this fundamental means of support. Acme's long-term goal is to create a permanent and sustainable network of affordable, accessible and high-quality studios for artists in London. All of Acme’s activities are co-ordinated from an office space in a former factory on Regent’s Canal in East London.
This project, the basis of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Acme Studios and Central Saint Martins, provides an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to work on a highly strategic project with London’s leading artists’ studio development organisation.
You will be an employee of the University, but will be working at Acme’s main offices in East London. Your work will be supervised by Jonathan Harvey, Acme’s Chief Executive, and Graham Ellard, Reader at Central Saint Martins. Your responsibilities will include assessment of the organisations current studio provision, investigation into current and emerging art practices and their relationship to the studio, development and testing of new design performance specifications and methodologies and embedding new systems through a programme of training and documentation. Your work with Acme will also help you qualify for a Diploma in Management.
You will have a good first degree (2:1 or above) in Art, Art History and/or Theory, Architecture, or a similar, relevant, discipline. A good understanding of contemporary fine art practice, knowledge of advance research and implementation techniques and good communication and project management skills are essential.
